Just after lunch, one of the shikos comes into the harem and approaches Kam, bowing deeply.

“Concubine Kam, the Crown Prince has requested your presence in his private rooms.”

He puts aside the book he's been reading, and his heart starts to race. Yenna, who is sitting nearby, comes up and startles him by giving him a hug.

“It will be alright,” he says, and kisses Kam's forehead. “There's no reason to fear.”

“But...” There are so many things to say, but in the end, none of his objections matter. He offered himself as Ryuu's concubine, and and so he will do his duty. He drinks in the comfort of Yenna's embrace for a moment, and then nods, more decisively than he feels, and stands on legs that feel like they're made of water. “Please, lead on,” he says to the shiko, who bows again and leads him out of the harem. There is a guard outside, and he falls into step with Kam as they walk. No doubt in case Kam tries to run, he thinks grimly.

They go up a nearby spiral staircase, up and up until Kam feels dizzy, and then step out into another corridor. The shiko knocks on a door at the end of the hallway, and then opens it to introduce Kam. Bowing her head, she steps aside so that he can enter.

He does so, trepidation creeping over him, especially when the door closes behind him to leave him alone. He glances around, trying to figure out what Ryuu might want with him – apart from the obvious.

The room looks to be a living area, most of the space taken up by a large couch with plush cushions in dark metallic shades. The walls are covered in tapestries, showing beautiful landscapes: rolling clouds over mountains, forests, waves. There’s a low table in the centre of the room, with a jug of water on it and two cups, but Kam doesn’t see Ryuu anywhere.

He stands just inside the doorway, wondering what he’s meant to do, when he catches movement out of the corner of his eye. Ryuu has just come into the room from a balcony. He gestures Kam over to him, and he goes, his heart racing a little faster as he does. If he knew what Ryuu wanted of him, maybe he’d be less afraid. But it’s not just fear – it’s excitement, too.

Today Ryuu's robe is much simpler than the one he wore in the great hall. It's plain black, with a red belt, and there are black trousers beneath. The robe is sleeveless, and shows off Ryuu's muscular arms - warrior's arms. Kam feels a tug of attraction, just like with Yenna and Buri. He's attracted to Ryuu – how could he not be? The Tarrese crown prince is undeniably gorgeous. But the amount by which Kam is drawn to him, and more than that, the way he wants to get to his knees, just as he did in the great hall – not as a sign of respect, as a sign of- of-

Of submission, Kam thinks, and shivers.
